Why House Church?

The Book of Acts paints the most compelling picture of community the world has ever seen. As we compare that picture to the Sunday morning church experience most of us grew up with, we discover that we were made for so much more than what we’ve settled for.

While the early church’s practice of meeting together at the Temple has been widely replicated in our day, these large group gatherings were never intended to be the church’s primary vehicle for community and discipleship. That was reserved for the smaller, more intimate gatherings of friends, family and neighbors that we see in Acts 2:42-47.

At Little Flock, we call these gatherings House Church, and they are where we come together to be known and loved; to learn how to use our gifts and make disciples. As we follow this recipe for community that Jesus modeled, we begin to rediscover our true identity and purpose as seen in John 13:34-35.

1.) To be loved by God.
2.) To love God and each other.
3.) To make God’s love known to the world.

When we devote ourselves to biblical community, Scripture promises that God will bless us with favor in our neighborhoods and He will bring us new disciples. In short, the Great Commission begins to unfold right inside our own homes.

Anatomy Of A House Church Gathering

Below is a list of the ten components of Christian community as seen in Acts 2. Understanding that the large group Temple gatherings mentioned in Acts 2:42-47 could only accomplish so much in the way of cultivating authentic community, we have discovered that within the context of House Church, all ten components may be meaningfully experienced within a two-hour block of time.

1 FEAST & FELLOWSHIP (30 Minutes)
– Meet In A Home // Acts 2:44 & 46
– Engage In Fellowship // Acts 2:42
– Enjoy A Meal Together // Acts 2:42 & 46

2 SHARE & PRAY (15 Minutes)
– Share & Resolve Needs // Acts 2:44 & 45
– Celebrate Praise Reports // Acts 2:43
– Pray for Each Other // Acts 2:42

3 STUDY & OBEY (60 Minutes)
– Study & Obey Scripture // Acts 2:42
– Make Disciples // Acts 2:47

4 WORSHIP & COMMUNION (15 Minutes)
– Worship & Praise God // Acts 2:46
– Take Communion // Acts 2:42 & 46

Anyone who devotes themselves to this proven pattern of House Church will experience the holy awe God promises to those who are willing to do what Acts 2 says.

Our Pattern Of Teaching

WORSHIP 1st Sunday Of The Month
Every first Sunday of the month our House Churches gather together for a special worship service called First Sunday. Here, we receive a specific Scripture to learn and pray through for the month.

LISTEN 1st Week Of The Month
At our first House Church gathering of the month we take the teaching Scripture delivered in the First Sunday sermon and filter it through the Listen Tool in order to discern what God is saying to us as a church.

DO 2nd Week Of The Month
At our second House Church gathering of the month we take the teaching Scripture and our gleanings from the previous week, and filter those through the Do Tool in order to discern what action God is calling us to as individuals.

TELL 3rd Week Of The Month
At our third House Church gathering of the month we revisit our action statements from the previous week. Using the Tell Tool, we share and celebrate how we were able to put God’s Word into action.

REST 4th Week Of The Month
Every fourth Week of the month we take a break from House Church. This intentional pause models Rest and provides people time to process all God said the preceding month while allowing us to prepare our hearts for a fresh word from the Lord in the month to come.
